Just got laid off, what should I do first?

I lost my job as an IT help-desk technician and I am not sure what to do first. Thank you in advance. I have a few weeks of savings and a rent payment due. Is there a checklist I should follow?

File for unemployment right away. Do not wait for severance decisions. The date you file can matter.

Ask for your final pay, unused leave and any documents in writing before you leave, if you still can.
