Industry layoffs, what are people doing? (update)

Three companies in Dallas cut staff in the same month. It has been weighing on me all week. I am open to a pay cut if the field is stable. Which areas are hiring?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 6 months ago, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
