Industry layoffs, what are people doing? (update)

Many of the people I know in my field were laid off this year, including me as a store manager. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I am open to a pay cut if the field is stable. Which areas are hiring?

I moved into operations work. The skills carried over and there were more openings than in my old field.
