Industry layoffs, what are people doing? (update)

Many of the people I know in my field were laid off this year, including me as a software tester. I worked as a software tester before this. I have transferable skills but no direct experience elsewhere.

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it last year, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
