Industry layoffs, what are people doing? (Honolulu)

Our sector has been shrinking and I am unsure if I should wait it out. I am in Honolulu, in case local advice matters. The postings I see are fewer and ask for more. Which areas are hiring?

Look at job postings to see which skills repeat, then fill the gap. That gave me a direction.

Talk to people in the field you are considering. Two coffee chats changed my mind about one option.
