Industry layoffs, what are people doing? - any advice?

Three companies in Cincinnati cut staff in the same month. There are 16 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I am open to a pay cut if the field is stable. How did you choose?

I moved into operations work. The skills carried over and there were more openings than in my old field.
