Industry layoffs, what are people doing? - any advice?

Three companies in Kansas City cut staff in the same month. There are 11 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. The postings I see are fewer and ask for more. Who has switched fields?

I moved into operations work. The skills carried over and there were more openings than in my old field.
