Industry layoffs, what are people doing? - any advice?

Three companies in Austin cut staff in the same month. This is my first time dealing with any of this. I have transferable skills but no direct experience elsewhere. Who has switched fields?

A short certificate helped me more than a new degree would have. Check what local colleges offer.
