Industry layoffs, what are people doing? - any advice?

Three companies in Milwaukee cut staff in the same month. This is my first time dealing with any of this. I have transferable skills but no direct experience elsewhere. Which areas are hiring?

I moved into operations work. The skills carried over and there were more openings than in my old field.
