Industry layoffs, what are people doing?

Three companies in Chicago cut staff in the same month. There are 12 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I have transferable skills but no direct experience elsewhere. Who has switched fields?

A short certificate helped me more than a new degree would have. Check what local colleges offer.
