How do I tell my family about the layoff? (update)

I was laid off 8 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. It has been a long 8 weeks. Bills are coming up and I cannot keep this quiet. How did you handle it?

Do not wait until a bill surprises them. The longer it goes, the harder it gets.
