How do I tell my family about the layoff? (update)

I was laid off 7 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I am in Boise, in case local advice matters. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
