How do I tell my family about the layoff? (update)

I was laid off 25 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. There are 12 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I want a plan before I speak.

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 14 months ago, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
