How do I tell my family about the layoff? (update)

My spouse does not know yet that I was let go as a web developer. It has been a long 6 weeks. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. How did you handle it?

Do not wait until a bill surprises them. The longer it goes, the harder it gets.
