How do I tell my family about the layoff? (update)

My spouse does not know yet that I was let go as a janitorial supervisor. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I want a plan before I speak. How did you handle it?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
