How do I tell my family about the layoff? (Tucson)

I was laid off 7 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. What did you say?

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.

I told my partner the same evening with a simple plan: what happened, what I was doing and what I needed. It was a relief.
