How do I tell my family about the layoff? (Omaha)

I was laid off 20 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. There are 4 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. What did you say?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 10 months ago, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.
