How do I tell my family about the layoff?

My spouse does not know yet that I was let go as a paralegal. I worked as a paralegal before this. Bills are coming up and I cannot keep this quiet. How did you handle it?

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
