How do I tell my family about the layoff? (Boston)

I was laid off 11 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. Bills are coming up and I cannot keep this quiet. What did you say?

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
