How do I tell my family about the layoff?

I was laid off 10 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I am in Kansas City, in case local advice matters. I want a plan before I speak. How did you handle it?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
