How do I tell my family about the layoff? - any advice?

My spouse does not know yet that I was let go as an IT help-desk technician. I have been trying to stay organised about it. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team.

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.

I told my partner the same evening with a simple plan: what happened, what I was doing and what I needed. It was a relief.
