How do I tell my family about the layoff? - any advice?

I was laid off 6 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. It has been a long 6 weeks. Bills are coming up and I cannot keep this quiet. How did you handle it?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 3 months ago, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.
