How do I tell my family about the layoff? after 5 years as an IT help-desk technician

I have been leaving the house at the same time each day so my kids do not notice. I worked as an IT help-desk technician before this. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. How did you handle it?

Do not wait until a bill surprises them. The longer it goes, the harder it gets.
