How do I tell my family about the layoff? after 5 years as an administrative assistant

My spouse does not know yet that I was let go as an administrative assistant. There are 5 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. Bills are coming up and I cannot keep this quiet. Did it get easier afterwards?
