How do I tell my family about the layoff? after 4 years as a web developer

I was laid off 25 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. What did you say?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
