How do I tell my family about the layoff? after 17 years as an office manager

I was laid off 17 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. Any experience at all would help. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. How did you handle it?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
