How do I tell my family about the layoff? after 12 years as a graphic designer

I was laid off 25 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. This is my first time dealing with any of this. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. How did you handle it?

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.
