How do I tell my family about the layoff? after 11 years as a medical assistant

I was laid off 15 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I want a plan before I speak. How did you handle it?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
