How do I tell my family about the layoff?

My spouse does not know yet that I was let go as a line cook. I have been trying to stay organised about it. Bills are coming up and I cannot keep this quiet. How did you handle it?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.
