How do I explain a layoff in interviews? - first time posting

They always ask why I left, and I freeze. There are 14 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I do not want to blame the company. What do you say?

If a company has been in the news for layoffs, you can mention that. Often the interviewer already knows.
