How do I explain a layoff in interviews? - any advice?

I have an interview next week and I am unsure how to explain why I left my last job as a nurse's aide. I do not usually post, so bear with me. I have been practising in the mirror.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.

If a company has been in the news for layoffs, you can mention that. Often the interviewer already knows.
