How do I explain a layoff in interviews? after 18 years as a store manager

My whole team was cut and I want to say it calmly. I am in St. Louis, in case local advice matters. I do not want to blame the company.

If a company has been in the news for layoffs, you can mention that. Often the interviewer already knows.

Say it plainly and move on to what you can do. Interviewers usually move on if you do.
