How do I explain a layoff in interviews? - 8 months and counting

I have an interview next week and I am unsure how to explain why I left my last job as a project coordinator. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I have been practising in the mirror. Do you mention numbers?

I keep it to two sentences: the company cut my team, and here is what I am proud of and what I am looking for next.
