How do I explain a layoff in interviews? - 11 months and counting

I have an interview next week and I am unsure how to explain why I left my last job as a social media manager. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I have been practising in the mirror. What do you say?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.

If a company has been in the news for layoffs, you can mention that. Often the interviewer already knows.
