How do I explain a layoff in interviews? - 10 months and counting

I have an interview next week and I am unsure how to explain why I left my last job as a web developer. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. I do not want to blame the company.

If a company has been in the news for layoffs, you can mention that. Often the interviewer already knows.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
