Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? - what worked for you?

My spouse does not know yet that I was let go as a dental hygienist. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. How did you handle it?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it last year, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
