Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? - what worked for you?

My spouse does not know yet that I was let go as a project coordinator. It has been a long 12 weeks. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. How did you handle it?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
