Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? (update)

I was laid off 24 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I worked as a social media manager before this. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. How did you handle it?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
