Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? (update)

My spouse does not know yet that I was let go as an administrative assistant. It has been weighing on me all week. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. Did it get easier afterwards?

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.

I told my partner the same evening with a simple plan: what happened, what I was doing and what I needed. It was a relief.
