Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea?, store manager here

I was laid off 23 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I want a plan before I speak. Did it get easier afterwards?

Do not wait until a bill surprises them. The longer it goes, the harder it gets.

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 13 months ago, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
