Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? (Portland)

My spouse does not know yet that I was let go as a social media manager. I am in Portland, in case local advice matters. Bills are coming up and I cannot keep this quiet. What did you say?

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it last year, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
