Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? (Portland)

My spouse does not know yet that I was let go as an insurance claims processor. It has been weighing on me all week. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team.

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.

Do not wait until a bill surprises them. The longer it goes, the harder it gets.
