Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? (Omaha)

My spouse does not know yet that I was let go as a janitorial supervisor. It has been a long 12 weeks. I want a plan before I speak. How did you handle it?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.
