Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea?, janitorial supervisor here

I was laid off 16 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. This is my first time dealing with any of this. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. Did it get easier afterwards?
