Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? (Jacksonville)

I was laid off 15 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. It has been a long 15 weeks. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. How did you handle it?

Do not wait until a bill surprises them. The longer it goes, the harder it gets.
