Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? - first time posting

I was laid off 2 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I worked as a dental hygienist before this. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. Did it get easier afterwards?

Kids often pick up more than you think. A short, calm explanation helped mine feel secure.
