Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? - first time posting

I was laid off 4 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I am in Baltimore, in case local advice matters. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. What did you say?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it last year, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.
