Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? - first time posting

I was laid off 22 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. What did you say?

I told my partner the same evening with a simple plan: what happened, what I was doing and what I needed. It was a relief.
