Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea? - first time posting

I was laid off 18 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. This is my first time dealing with any of this. Bills are coming up and I cannot keep this quiet. What did you say?

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
