Hiding a layoff from the family, bad idea?

I was laid off 25 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. How did you handle it?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.

Do not wait until a bill surprises them. The longer it goes, the harder it gets.
